What's been happening at Holmwood

Our summer fete was a fantastic success this year, with over £ 600 being raised for our Residents Entertainment Fund. Our main attraction, Andy the Clown provided workshops for the children, a magic show and even took part in our dog show with his balloon dog! Our many visitors enjoyed cakes and afternoon teas served by the kitchen, along with many stalls to browse, including crafts, bric a brac, tombola, raffle, face painting and games such as hook a duck, bowl for a pig and splat the rat! We were very lucky with the weather enjoying a warm and sunny afternoon with rain only arriving towards the end of the afternoon, but we are pleased to report this didn’t dampen the jolly atmosphere!!

Our residents have been making the most of our lovely outside spaces during the recent warm weather. Enjoying an array of activities such as Quizzes in the Garden, Croquet and a Vintage Tea Party.

We had a very exciting Friday afternoon recently, when a swarm of bees descended into our walled garden. After assisting our residents inside and a speedy securing of doors and windows, we all enjoyed the spectacle. A big thank you went to Mr Bob Spruce of the Waveney Bee Keepers Association, who came to our rescue and collecting the bees and taking them to a more suitable location!

Pop Up Shops

Our residents are now enjoying regular pop up shops, which to date have been provided by Edinburgh Woollen Mill, M & Co and Brantano. These lovely afternoons provide lots of stimulation and are a great social occasion, while of course giving everyone the opportunity to shop!

Dementia Focus Groups at Holmwood

Emma Roberts our Dementia Care Lead, organises and hosts regular Dementia Focus Groups at Holmwood.

We were very pleased to receive a guest speaker from ALZHEIMERS UK recently, who provided a great talk on how we can all be more aware of how best to communicate, assist and understand those living with dementia, as well as giving all those attending the session a chance to register for the ‘Dementia Friends’ Campaign.

By holding these regular sessions, we are hoping to encourage group discussion and support, leading to better awareness for dementia sufferer’s, their carer’s and loved ones.

Dinner Club

Following our first and very successful Diners Club evening in November 2014, we are now hosting regular evenings, which provide an opportunity for our residents to host a table for family and friends to join them for a candlelit dinner party experience, with food produced and served by our management team.
